Chris was surprised when she giggled. Had he really been that funny? He hadn't intentionally tried to be. But she was laughing. His face softened into a shy smile, turning his face away so she wouldn't see. He loved her laugh. It reminded him of ... bubbles. But he really shouldn't be thinking that right now, not right after meeting her so soon. Wait, wait ... It would seem mean if he didn't laugh too. So he joined in and very quickly it felt genuine, it fit to be laughing with her. Like a hole somewhere in him had suddenly been filled. He felt strange, it was an almost out-of-body experience, but a good one, his feet were off the ground it seemed. Oh, no. What was happening?
Suddenly, he felt very nervous. 'Rebel?' He chuckled, but it didn't seem to flow as well as it first had. Probably an effect of his crazily beating heart. 'You could have fooled me with that name.' He smiled down at the girl, hating that he had to look down to meet her eyes. It seemed so condescending, not right for the situation when he wanted so badly to be on her level. Silence for a second. Before he noticed it he was twiddling his thumbs, wringing his hands, a habit he thought he'd dropped long ago. 'I-I should introduce you to my sister, Rose. She has a horse, Sunny. Maybe we could all head out to the arena this weekend?' Woah, had he just offered this girl to hang out with him this weekend? What was he getting himself into? Now he'd have to spend more than five minutes with his hair, worrying about how he'd act and look and what he'd say... Not that it wouldn't be great if she didn't accept.
They were up the stairs now, so he was fortunately distracted again. 'O.K., so ... Algebra Two?' He said, looking over her shoulder at the schedule, getting a little hot under the collar with the closeness. Why couldn't he just calm down and talk to her? It would get him so much farther than this was.
