A day of Jumping (open)

[Riley Cruz]

Riley and her mom, Zoe, walked into the empty arena. Golden Medallion neighed softly, before he resumed to sniff the air silently. The stallion wore his baby blue saddle pad, black bell boots, and matching baby blue boots. Riley tightened the girth on the jumping saddle as her mom rested the poles on the ground so they were merely ground poles. Her mother had been a riding instructor about five years ago, before she began getting calls about making custom artwork. Zoe gave Riley a leg up before she adjusted the girht once more. She patted the stallion's neck as he chewed on his flavored snaffle bit. Then Riley began walking Leon around.

After about fifteen minutes of walking around, Riley resumed to a nice extended trot. She led Leon through 3 loop serpentines, leg yields, turn on the forehand and haunches to get him warmed and loosened up. Once they had been warming up for about thirty minutes. Riley cantered Golden Medallion around the arena. Her mother's soft voice talked to Leon and Riley as the did so.

"Good, make sure he has inside bend and don't let him fall in around those corners." She said, watching as Riley pushed Leon out onto the rail with her inside leg. Riley switched direction, Zoe began setting up the jumps. For starters she raised them to 2'9". They ran through a set course of an oxer, then a a couple of verticals. Once Golden Medallion was pumped up, Zoe began to try and construct a small hogsback.

I rode Dreamer in the arena and started to warm her up. I walked her around the arena and I asked her to extend her walk. Dreamer went into a nice extended walk and I asked her to trot. She started to trot and I trotted her around the arena. I moved her to an extended trot and she moved into an extended trot. I then cantered her and I cantered behind the girl and her horse. Sacred Dreamer snorted and I smiled

Riley saw another rider come into the arena. She smiled lightly. Before returning her gaze back to her mother. Golden Medallion, chewing on his bit contently, turned his head towards Riley when she came to the center of the arena. Her mother checked to make sure her stirrups were even, before Riley set off at a canter. She came around the corner, turning Leon to look at the jump. He didn't rush, but kept his cool, before he glided over the jump with ease.

Riley watched her mother smile, and then scowl as Golden Medallion pinned his ears. He was normally very friendly with mares but today just wasn't the day. Riley became extra aware now that Leon was in a bad mood. She took him back to the rail and continued with the rest of the pattern.

I cantered around the arena and I checked her. She went into a collected canter and I smiled. I let her go back to a normal canter. I cantered to the first jump the girl took and I rated her so she could be even with the jump. Dreamer cleared the jump with ease and she snorted. I cantered her along the rail before the next jump and she felt good under me today.

Riley urged Golden Medallion to the hogsback. Her mother stood a few feet away from the jump. She watched Riley quietly. Golden Medallion didn't try to rush this jump either. He kept himself in a smooth canter. At the base of the jump he took off, his powerful hidn quarters pushing him off the ground. Riley took up two point, feeling the space between her and the ground, as if she were flying. Leon came down gently. Riley brought him down to an extended trot, then a free walk. Leon stopped to scratch his leg, before he lifted his head to resume chewing on his bit. Riley's mother came over to them, her steps were the same silent and quick ones that Riley ould never detect.

"I am going to go to the car and get some water." She said before leaving the arena. Riley watched the other girl ride her horse. When she passed Riley, Rye's voice came out cheerfully.

"Hi! I'm Riley." She said, rubbing Leon's withers gently.

I slowed her down and stopped her. I rode her back to Riley and smiled. Hi, my name is Rachel and this is Sacred Dreamer, Dreamer for short." I said smiling. "Your horse is a pretty good jumper. So is Dreamer." I said patting the Grey mare' s neck. I looked at her horse which I noticed it was a stallion and he was a cool looking horse.
" Do you want to watch us?' I asked her.

Riley smiled. She looked at Sacred Dreamer. She was a very pretty mare.

"And this is Golden Medallion, but I call him Leon for short." Riley watched as the stallion bent his head in a round position, eyeing the mare oddly, before he snorted and chewed on his bit.

"I can watch you until my mom comes back. Then I have to resume riding. She asked Leon to walk and then picked up a trot. He kept his round postion as they trotted aroun the arena.

ooc: there's a horse at my barn who's sire is Sacred Dreamer. It 's a pretty name.

I pushed the mare from a walk to a canter. We cantered to the first jump and I had to rate her. We cleared the jump and we cantered on to the next jump. She increased her stride and she cleared the jump with ease. When we cantered to the third jump, she got excited and sped up a little. I tightened the reigns a little and rated her. She took the jump perfectly and we cantered on to the last jump that I wanted her to take. A 5 pole triple combination and she cleared the jumps with ease. We cantered a little and I slowed her down to a trot. I patted her neck and I looked at my new friend, Riley.

Riley watched Rachel jump Sacred Dreamer. They were a great team, the way Rachel could handle her horse was one thing a team was built upon.

"That was great!" She said, her mom had returned, and having seen Rachel jump she smiled widely.

"I agree." Zoe said. She stretched out her hand to Rachel.

"Hi, I am Zoe, Riley's mom." Riley smiled, glad that her mother liked Rachel. Before she set off to complete the same pattern Rachel had. Golden Medallion cleared all of the fences with ease, before she returned to Rachel and Zoe. She bent over to hug the stallion's bronze neck.

I reached my hand out to shake her mom's hand. "Thanks. HI, I'm Rachel and this beautiful mare is Sacred Dreamer." I sad patting the mare's neck. She nickered at the complement and nudged Riley's mom's shoulder. I smiled. "Looks like Dreamer said thank you." I said smiling. I watched Riley and her horse. They were like us they worked as a team and I smiled at them. "Zoe, Riley and her horse are a really good team. I have a good idea. Why don't we practice and tell each other what we need to work on? We can also train together." I suggested

Riley finished her last jump and then walked back over to Rachel and her mother. Golden Medallion went to rest his head on Zoe's shoulder. His eyes fluttered a bit before he decided to close them to take a quick nap. Riley smiled, before leaning forward and rubbing her horse's soft ears. Zoe tapped her lips, thinking about what Rachel had said. Zoe was never one to jump right in and make a final decision immediately.

"I think that sounds fine." Riley said, nudging her mother with the tip of her boot. She smiled at Rachel. Zoe shrugged and smiled widely at Rachel.

"Sounds alright to me." She said, walking over to the mounting block and perching on it, before she took a sip of her water.

I smiled back and I looked at the stallion. I smiled and Dreamer pricked her ears. She nickered and snorted. I dismounted and Dreamer nuzzled my shoulder. I smiled and patted her neck. Dreamer looked at the stallion and nickered to him. She flickered her Grey ears and snorted. She wanted to be friends with Riley's horse. "Hey, Riley. Do you want to go on a trail ride to cool off these two?'" I asked.

Riley watched Rachel and Sacred Dreamer closely. She couldn't let Rachel or her horse get too close. Golden Medallion wasn't feeling too friendly with the mare, which was unusuall, but she understood him. Somtimes she felt that way too. Rye looked at her mom. Her mother smiled.

"I guess I could. But I must warn you that Golden Medallion doesn't like other horses, and he is a bit nervous around new people. He has trust issues." She said, the last line, covering her stalion's ears as if he would be offended becuase his "secret" was revealed. Her mother laughed before getting up and tossing her empy water bottle in an nearby trashcan.
